Free from our past

"1 [There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

— Romans 8:1-2 (KJV)

Once we repent and accept Jesus into our lives we are new creatures and we should walk forward with the new knowledge that we have on God’s standard for how Christians should live their lives. We are reborn with a clean slate, and we do not have to carry forward the burden of our sins, or any guilt that is associated with them. As we learn more and more about God’s word and plan for our life, we should take some time to examine our past behaviors. Part of this process is breaking habits that we might have that do not align with God’s word while creating new habits that do align with his words. The knowledge that we are no longer condemned to the consequences of our past sins is such a relief and one of God’s many blessings to us. The relief comes from knowing that unlike many of our peers, God doesn’t only see our past mistakes and judge us because of them, he sees and knows our heart. This passage is one of the many examples of the grace and love that God has for us.
